Why Stevia

What Stevia Does Differently

Blood Sugar Management

Stevia contains zero carbohydrates and does not cause the blood glucose spikes associated with table sugar. It is safe and well-tolerated for people with diabetes or prediabetes.

Calorie Reduction and Weight Control

Because it is 200 to 400 times sweeter than regular sugar, you only need a tiny amount to achieve the same sweetness. Replacing sugar with stevia helps lower daily calorie intake.

Blood Pressure Support

Some research suggests that steviol glycosides can help promote vasodilation (widening of blood vessels), which may assist in lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure in people with mild-to-moderate hypertension.

Dental Health

Unlike table sugar, stevia does not feed the oral bacteria responsible for tooth decay and cavities.

Weight & Wellness

Health Benefits & Weight Loss Mechanisms

Zero Calories and Carbs

Refined Stevia preparations contribute 0 calories and a glycemic index of 0, creating a daily calorie deficit if you swap it for high-calorie added sugars.

Calorie Deficit Support

Clinical studies show that replacing sugar with stevia-based tabletop sweeteners can reduce daily caloric intake (averaging an estimated ~90 kcal/day deficit in select trials) and support reductions in body weight, BMI, and waist circumference over time.

Appetite and Fullness

Some research suggests foods or snacks sweetened with stevia can help people feel just as full and satisfied while consuming fewer overall calories compared to sugar-sweetened versions.

Blood Sugar Control

Stevia does not raise blood glucose or insulin levels, making it a safe alternative for individuals managing diabetes, prediabetes, or low-carb/keto diets.

Intense Sweetness

Because steviol glycosides are 30 to 200 times sweeter than regular sugar, only a tiny amount is needed to achieve the same level of sweetness.

Backed by Research

What Studies Have Found

Highlights from published research on stevia, archived by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Lower Weight in 90 Days

In a 2023 clinical study, overweight adults who replaced added sugar with a stevia-based tabletop sweetener for 90 days had significant reductions in body weight and waist circumference. Overweight adults with prediabetes saw the same reductions, with no significant change in HbA1c.

Less Plaque Buildup

In a human study, rinsing with a stevia solution led to less plaque on teeth than rinsing with sugar water. Lab studies also found stevia slows the growth of bacteria linked to cavities.

No Calorie Catch-Up

In human studies, people who had stevia instead of sugar did not eat extra food later to make up for the missing calories, and did not report feeling hungrier.

Natural Antioxidants

Stevia leaves contain phenolic compounds and flavonoids that act as antioxidants, helping neutralize free radicals in laboratory tests.

Centuries of Use

The Guarani people of South America have used stevia leaves to sweeten drinks such as mate for generations. Today it is grown and enjoyed around the world.
